Tip of the Week

Money Saving Tip of the Week

I have been thinking about this a lot, what has helped me the most when it comes to shopping? (besides couponing and price matching). And I figured out what that was………….self control. I buy what I need NOT what I want. Every once and a while I will “splurge” and buy ice cream or cookies or something that we do not need. That is one reason I have stopped the big Albertson’s sales. There are some great deals, but I did not NEED a lot of that stuff I just really wanted it. At first it was really hard, but now I have our grocery bill down to about $50. It used to be $75-$100 a week for a family of four. We snack on apples, carrots, and raisins now. Not only is it cheaper because I can price match so much produce at Wal-Mart, but it is also a lot healthier. It’s not just treats, it’s also buying generic or substituting or not using a certain ingredient because of its price. (9 times out of 10 you can not even taste the difference.)

Honoring our servicemen

This is not a good deal to save money - rather a "pass the word out"!!! Bro. Joel Ellington is coming home from serving in Afganastan. He will be home Friday morning (February 27). I talked to his wife this morning. Our ward is lining 400 East with flags and she would like as many of us that can to please be outside to cheer him on home. Please be outside on 4oo East in PG at 10:00 am - cheering and waving an American Flag (if you have one)!!! Please pass the word to other people in our ward or other friends that would like to join.

Free Kashi

http://www.kashi.com/picturehunt
Yes, sometimes Kashi's stuff tastes like cardboard, but hey, it's free and maybe it'll be good.

I was asked if all Wal-Marts will no longer price match Sunflower Market and Buy-Low or is it just Lindon? I do not know. If somebody is going to AF/Lehi Wal-Mart would you please find out and post that information for all of use to see.

Money Saving Tip

It has been brought to my attention that people like to see all of the great deals, but they would also like to find other ways to save money. I will try to post 1 or 2 money saving tips each week. If there is something that you would like me to post please e-mail me at jen_fugal@hotmail.com and I will post your tip. Todays tip comes from Honey and Hot Stuff. The following is an e-mail that she sent me.

Jen, I have a great tip on saving money!!! Make a menu!! I noticed that when I made a weekly (or even a two week menu) I ended up cutting my grocery bill in half!! I look to see what I have in my pantry and fridge first and make the meals off of what I already had. I love new recipes and found the best website ever! allrecipes.com They have a tab called ingredients. If you click on it; a screen comes up, you enter in the ingredients that have/want to use and/or the ones that you don't want. Then the recipes come up. I just a recipe for Citrus chicken and rice- the only thing from the recipe that I did not have is the orange juice. The tip to making this work is making a list of the things that you need and buying only what’s on the list. But no matter what happens those darn cookies always jump into my cart- I don't know how this happens!!! =) ON the website there is a section called meals for just $10. The link is below!http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Ten-Meals-on-10/Detail.aspx So I hope that I have helped a few people out there! Enjoy cooking!

The Frugal Fugal has been making menues for about the last year. It cuts down on time, energy, and shopping trips, which all leads to SAVING MONEY!!!

p.s. Piglet d' Erin - I am so sorry about what happened to your hubby atWal-Mart with the grapefruit sale. As soon as I found out that Wal-Mart no longer price matches Sunflower Market I posted that info.

Buy Low Market

After Wal-Mart said they would no longer price match Buy Low Market - I got curious. I found their website and read other sale hunters reviews at pinchingyourpennies.com. Everybody that has commented likes the store. Here is their information 2250 N. University Pkwy.Provo, UT 84604801-812-2000801-812-2001 FaxStore Director: Jim McCaleb M-Saturday 6:00AM - 11:00PM CLOSED ON SUNDAYS. The website (which also has their weekly ad) is http://www.buylowmarket-utah.com
I am going to try to check it out next week. I went to Sunflower Market on Friday. It is in Orem across from the mall on State street. It was well worth the visit. One of their sales were oats for $0.59 a pound.

Wal-Mart will NOT price match Sunflower market

The gravy train has ended - I knew it was only a matter of time. I had a shopping cart full of food (most of it price matched of course) and most of the produce wal-mart would not price match. The cashier said that in just the last few day they have been told not to price match SUNFLOWER MARKET or BUY LOW (which I have never heard of).

However, Wal-Mart does have a bunch of great clearance in the back by the baby and kid stuff. There are some really cute women's and nice men's dress shirts for $1.

Wal-Mart Deals

I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and there were a TON of clearance clothes for girls in the isle between kids and baby's.

Also milk is now $1.67 all the time there.

Lysol 4-in-1 concentrated cleaner is $2.00. There have been $1 coupons in the paper, $1 for cleaner is a great deal.

There is a tare pad of coupons by the Sara Lee bread. It used to be for $1 off milk, but it has changed to a FREE 2 liter of soda. Great deal of you drink soda!!!

If you don't drink soda and are missing the great deal on bread and milk (like me) there is a Sara Lee outlet store in AF on State Street across from Target. I buy about 10 loaves (about $0.90 each) and freeze them. Sara Lee freezes great and comes out still tasting fresh.

What is left of Valentine's Day is 50% off (or more at other stores like Wal-Green's)

Tuesday Ad's (Smith's and Albertson's)

The more time goes by, the more and more disapointed I get with the Albertson's sales. Instead of buying so many of a certain product and getting an instant money savings - you get the money savings on your next purchase. I do not shop at Albertson's that much any more because of this. I find that I end up spending more in an attempt to save money!! However, if you need the products that are on sale, it can be a good deal for you. Check out the pinching your pennies website for more details. http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=62

The same link will have all of the Smith's deals. The best one is general mills cereal is on sale for $1.67 and there are some coupons listed that you can use.

Macey's Case Lot Sale

Macey's case lot sale will begin March 4th. You can get an order form from the customer service desk, fill it out, and they will have your stuff waiting for you. (But that isn't nearly as much fun as spending 2 hours walking around looking at the deals while your kids are complaining they are hungry and want donuts!!!)

President's Day Sales

The were not any coupons in the paper on Sudnay, but there are a lot of sales at clothing stores. At Forever Young Shoes in University Mall all boots are buy one get one free and most other stores are buy one get one 1/2 off. There is a TON of clearance at the University Mall and the Provo Towne Center. Ream's (as always) has a lot of great produce deals. Price match them at Wal-Mart. You will find the Ream's ad at the bottom of the OUR TOWN section of the Daily Herald.
